Chart a New Course with America’s Boating Club: Help Us Build the Future of Virtual Boating Education by Joining the MuVIT Team
Do you have basic computer skills and a love for the water? If you can navigate a desktop, open folders, and click your way around a digital map, you have everything it takes to help us revolutionize how we teach safe boating.
America’s Boating Club is expanding our classroom capabilities using MuVIT—our innovative virtual boating simulation system. To make our classes as immersive and impactful as possible, we are searching for volunteers to join the MuVIT team to help create custom MuVIT scenery and scenarios.
Whether you want to build a digital version of your local harbor or design a specific docking challenge for students, your time can make a massive difference in our class offerings.
What Exactly Will You Be Doing?
Using Virtual Sailor’s software tools, you will help us build the worlds our students train in. This includes:
- Designing Scenery: Visually placing docks, shorelines, landmarks, and essential ATONs like buoys and lights.
- Creating Scenarios (“Situations”): Setting up specific training conditions—such as a boat starting just outside a crowded marina during a windy afternoon—so students can practice real-world decision-making safely on the simulator.
No Special Skills? No Problem!
When people hear “virtual simulation,” they often assume they need advanced degrees in 3D animation, game design, or complex coding. That is not the case here.
- No specialized graphics experience is required.
- No programming background is necessary.
- Full training will be provided on how to use the intuitive Virtual Sailor scenery editor.
If you can use a mouse to drag and drop objects on a screen, you can learn to create stunning, educational environments for our students. We will walk you through the software step-by-step until you feel completely comfortable.
Why Get Involved?
By volunteering, you will directly enhance the training options available to the next generation of boaters, helping to keep our waterways safer for everyone. It is a fantastic, flexible, work-from-home project that allows you to give back to the boating community while playing around with cutting-edge simulator tech and earning a merit mark.
